Update 10: Mythril Coins i QA
The release of Update 10 will introduce a new in-game currency called Mithril Coins. They can be purchased in the LOTRO store with Turbine Points and can be used for a variety of services including Stablemasters, Fast Travel to NPCs in quests, Reviving, Mannequins, and Daily Quest resets.

What does this mean for me?
Mithril Coins will replace some existing items, such as Revive Tomes and Stablemaster’s Writs. Our goal is to provide a simple, consistent interface for the services you already use. Ultimately it should be faster and easier for you to reset a quest, travel or quickly revive.

Why add Mithril Coins now?
We are always looking at ways to improve the game experience.
This streamlines many services and lets you get back into the fun without interrupting the game experience.

Why the focus on this instead of game content?
Mithril Coins are just one of the many features of Update 10 which also includes the second part of the Rohan Instance Cluster, newly scaled instances and raids from “In Your Absence,” the introduction of 1st Age weapons at level 85 and updates to the Fate stat and the Warden class.

Do you intend to introduce Mithril Coins to other areas of LOTRO?
We certainly have some ideas for Mithril Coins and how they can be integrated into other areas of the game and those ideas will evolve based on player feedback.

Are there any ways to earn Mithril in-game?
Mithril can only be purchased in the LOTRO Store for now.

Does this mean the LOTRO Store is going away?
We have no intentions of removing the store, which is a great place to buy bigger ticket items like account-based purchases and unlocks.

Will VIPs get Mithril Coins each month just like Turbine Points?
Currently there are no plans to give out Mithril Coins in this way, although VIPs can use their monthly allotment of Turbine Points to buy Mithril Coins.

najnowsze info List od producenta Kate Paiz:
(plany na przyszłość)

Hello all!

January has been an exciting month for us on the dev team! We’ve wrapped up our plans for 2013, and I’m very pleased to announce some new big initiatives for LOTRO you can expect in the coming year:

Player’s Council – We are doubling down this year on the conversation between Turbine and you, our players. We are going to start a Player’s Council, a group of players who participate in more regular & structured feedback sessions with the dev group. We want to make sure that as we grow and extend this game, that we are incorporating your likes and dislikes about what we are into what we release. The Community Team will be releasing more information about how we’re going to construct and run the Player’s Council in the coming weeks.

Western Rohan – I am at this moment standing on the parapet of the Hornburg, looking out over Helm’s Deep as devs populate the landscape with hundreds (soon to be thousands) of Saruman’s Uruk-hai & Orcs. We will be bringing you the rest of Rohan in two installments – Wildermore, a northern region between the Wold and Fangorn, will be released this spring, after our 6th anniversary, and later in the year, you’ll be able to see Western Rohan, Edoras, and participate in battles of epic proportions. Much more on this to come…

Housing – I am extremely pleased to say that this year we will be tackling a major revision to the Housing system. In February and March we will be gathering information about how Housing should change, and then we’ll be releasing revisions to the system in the latter half of the year. We look forward to leveraging our new Player’s Council to help shape and guide the extension of this feature!

Class Adjustments – Later in the year, we will be making some significant changes to the skills and traits of the Free Peoples classes. We’ll be pruning out skills that just feel disappointing in play and increasing the potency of others. The end result will be fewer skills, but a more profound impact on moment-to-moment play. How you choose to specialize your class will make a real difference!

There are plenty of other things happening this year, and we’ll be doing more dev chats via Twitter to keep getting the word out, so stay tuned for more details and more news in the coming weeks.

Na lû e-govaned vîn.

Jutro 12h maintenance:(update) okazuje się że jednak pojutrze:
All Turbine Game Servers and http://myaccount.turbine.com will be offline for global maintenance on Thursday, February 14th. We anticipate the downtime to last 12 hours, and our tentative start time is 6:00 AM Eastern (-5 GMT).
Dodatkowo wrzucam dyskusję z devsami odnośnie Update 10 i 11:
If you had questions that weren't answered with Lord of the Rings Online's last dev chat, then maybe you'll be covered with Turbine's latest Q&A between players and the development team. Today's dev chat took place on Twitter as the team tackled 40 questions from the community.

Chief among the topics was Update 10, of which the team spilled a host of details. The update will go to the test server next week, and promises to contain new armor sets, standardized power pools, the removal of dread on the landscape, a big change to Wardens, and the second half of the instance cluster. Turbine also said that while Update 10 won't have a new book in the epic story, Update 11 definitely will (and it'll be "super-sized"). Update 11 is also slated to add a whole new region to the game that includes mounted and standard combat.
Q1: Basically, any Update 10 info you can spare please.
A1: We are removing dread from defeat on landscape. Fate's potency is increasing. Power pools are being standardized. Both the new instances/raids and existing Scaling Instances are receiving new loot. New armour sets are coming in, along with First Age legendary items. Wardens are being switched to use agility as their main stat (there will be a grace period to allow you to get gear).

Q2: Any news of when you are going to release the second part of the instance cluster?
A2: Update 10.

Q3: Can we please get an ETA for Update 10?
A3: It will be on Bullroarer next week!

Q4: When are the class updates planned to happen?
A4: We are laying the groundwork now (and there's lots of it). Later this year, we'll see the big changes.

Q5: Will class updates also bring updates to creep classes?
A5: We need to see if the freep changes entirely explode in a fiery train wreck first.

Q6: My Kinship doesn't show up in MyLotro, will be any fixing for us?
A6: We're aware that some kinships have this problem. We're actually looking into some major changes for this year.

Q7: Will housing get a much-deserved revamp?
A7: This is also on the docket for later this year. We're testing out some ideas now and we'll see what shakes out.

Q8: Can we please have some competitions for the community to design cosmetics for our characters and war-steeds?
A8: We would love to! We are working with the various parties needed to set something like this up.

Q9: With the DG and ITA clusters both getting scaled, are you planning to regularly scale more old content in future updates?
A9: We're always looking to give old content new love and you can look forward to seeing more of this in the future.

Q10: What about server transfers? Any news on making it easier?
A10: I spoke to customer service about this and they recognize it as a gap in our service offerings. They're currently investigating ways to make it as easy as a name change. No details, but it's being looked at.

Q11: Will Galuhad's Kinship proposal ever be considered?
A11: That's a tall order (and a great proposal). Kins need a lot of work. That work sits behind the class work and housing. After we bang those things out, if I'm not summarily executed, I would like to get kins to where they ought to be.

Q12: What are your plans to improve server stability and prevent lag spikes?
A12: Performance tuning is an ongoing process. It's something we work on with every patch and update. It's a difficult problem with no simple solutions.

Q13 Will we have our faction rep mounts appearance for use as war-steed cosmetics?
A13 At this time, there is no plan to re-visit rep mounts as war-steed cosmetics.

Q14: Are there any plans to update the character models and animations?
A14: I spoke with our art director, here's what he said: "Tinkering with avatars can be risky. Players become very attached to the 'look and feel' of their character. It's very personal. That said, we are discussing the best way to make upgrades and changes. We'll be very interested in player feedback and suggestions as to how to go about making such dramatic changes. But yes, it's something we're currently investigating."

Q15: Any idea when the destiny point perks replacement will be implemented?
A15: This hasn't been forgotten. We're trying to get these back in a good spot rather than slapping them back in somewhere clunky.

Q16: Are the beard shaving and beardless Legolas Sapience community update videos still in the works?
A16: Yes! At least the Legolas beardless one. Turns out making the shaving one was more challenging than I expected.

Q17: What's the reasoning of effectively removing player interrupt skills from the game?
A17: We standardized the times to make it more of a mechanic to react to an event, instead of just allowing constant spam. Now it requires an active decision.

Q18: Will Update 10 include a new epic book?
A18: Update 10 will not include a new epic book, but there is a super-sized epic being worked on for Update 11!

Q19: What can we expect for loot in older scaling instances in the future?
A19: Older scaling instances can expect to see their loot revamped with the oportunity to get rare through legendary gear.

Q20: How about seasonal changes in the homesteads?
A20: It's something we'd like to do in both homesteads and major towns, but we'll have to see.

Q21: Are there new mounted combat things on the horizon?
A21: We're looking at some exciting things for the new region. We have some tricks up our sleeves.

Q22: Will we ever get an option to change race?
A22: We don't have any plans to add this.

Q23: I just want to tell Rockx that I take back everything I said about the Captain shield. I'm in love with my new shiny.
A23: Awwwwwww.

Q24: Will we be able to buy more wardrobe space anytime soon?
A24: It's something we're looking into. There are technical issues around storage and inventory.

Q25: Would you guys make the Ost Dunnoth gear medallions/marks purchasable?
A25: Yes. It's already in the works.

Q26: Can we get some info on the landmass?
A26: It will be comparable in size to Great River. It will support mounted and unmounted combat.

Q27: Any chance of more war-steed items not from the store?
A27: Yes. We'll talk more about it after Update 10.

Q28: Will Update 10 eliminate forced emotes?
A28: No, but players will have the option to opt out.

Q29: Will hunters get more survivability, akin to the survivability of almost every other (non-tank) class?
A29: Future updates to classes will make things like this a choice but not a given.

Q30: What does standardizing power pools mean?
A30: Power pools will seem less random between similar classes. This will clear the way to make overall class updates easier in the future.

Q31: What was the reason for getting rid of symbol drops in Durch and Twins? They actually created a lot of raid activity.
A31: We wanted to reserve major rewards for completing an instance. It also lets us standardize how these things are earned. They're still available on challenge mode.

Q32: Will this [new] region come with Update 10 or Update 11?
A32: Update 11.

Q33: Will the forced emote opt out be in the store or not?
A33: It will not be in the store. It will be a free option for all players.

Q34: There is a lot of talk about balance on the 'Moors. Are you currently looking into this for better balance between sides?
A34: There's always a lot of talk about balance in the 'Moors. It is built to shift back and forth. Next month we'll bring a PvP dev to talk more about it.

Q35: How many people from the art team hide in the restroom to doodle possible looks for Minas Tirith?
A35: Two people just said seven. So we'll go with that.

Q36: Other classes don't have to give up DPS to survive, why do Hunters have to do so?
A36: With upcoming class changes ALL CLASSES will have some difficult choices.

Q37: Is there an ETA for a revamp to the forums? What's been done to the main LotRO site looks really nice.
A37: No ETA, but yes there are many changes coming to the forums and community sites. Soon. The real one, not Sapience soon.

Q38: Please tell us more! What do you mean all classes have to choose?
A38: We'll talk more in future chats.

Q39: Can we expect to get Second Age [legendary items] relatively easily once First Ages arrive on the scene?
A39: Second Ages will be available for marks, medallions, and/or seals.

Q40: Sapience hasn't made a reference chart for developer #vagueness yet has he?
A40: I can barely understand when they speak English, I can't translate that stuff!

I jeszcze więcej info 8-)
Last year's delayed release of Riders of Rohan, the latest expansion for the Lord of the Rings Online, complicated the release schedule of the Rohan instance cluster. Instead of being pushed out all at once, it was broken into two halves and released as two separate updates. We got the first half in Update 9: Against the Shadow last December, and Update 10 delivers the second half. But where Update 9 was largely a hefty "quality of life" patch with some small-group instances tacked on, Update 10 is much heavier on the big-scale group content. We got to experience these new instances - one 6-person instance and three 12-person raids - with Turbine staffers Leo Tan (Digital Communications Manager), Hannah Foell (LotRO Producer) and Aaron Campbell (Senior Producer).

The new Road to Erebor instances thematically coincide with the December release of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, featuring locations that play major roles in that book. Update 10 continues along this path, using these locations as a backdrop in the War of the Ring setting. And they are all available starting at level 20, scaling all the way to 85, so new players fresh from their Hobbit cinema experiences won't be feeling left out.

Quality of Life & In Their Absence

Update 9 saw the scaling of the Dol Guldur instance cluster, so players could run the Mirkwood stuff at level 85, earning level 85 rewards. Update 10 continues this tradition, scaling the In Their Absence instance cluster to level 85 and adding level 85 loot to those instances as well. This includes both of the small-fellowship instances, both 6-mans, and all five wings of Ost Dunhoth.

[ obraz zewnętrzny ]

One of the more noteworthy "quality of life" changes is the addition of the Mithril Coin, a streamlined "currency" that replaces Writs of Passage, Tomes of Revival and other, similar store-bought items. It behaves like a currency inasmuch as it is stored in the character's Barter Wallet and it is exchanged directly for services, but it's a currency that players have to buy from the LotRO Store using Turbine Points - sort of like amusement park tickets or ride tokens. The Mithril Coin is one currency to rule them all.

The change that is most likely to cause rioting in the streets is a change to the Warden class, switching the primary stat from Might to Agility. This will bring it in line with the other medium-armor classes (Burglar and Hunter) and should streamline things for the developers in charge of designing unrestricted medium armors. But it might mean a fair bit of grinding for Wardens who have built up a large chunk of Might via jewellery, relics, virtues and non-set armor pieces.
Bells of Dale

[ obraz zewnętrzny ]

"Aid will not come to the Men of Gondor from the North, for in these last days of the Third Age, war has come to the foot of Erebor. Easterlings answering the call of the Dark Lord prepare to besiege Dale and the Lonely Mountain. The only comfort is that Mordor's host will also be bereft of these forces...."

Our first stop was the city of Dale, prior to the siege of the Lonely Mountain, where King Brand seeks to warn the people of the Easterling attack. While technical issues prevented us from charging through this instance all the way to the end, it did showcase some interesting new tech. Enemy "hotspots" - non-targeted area-based attacks, buffs and debuffs with persistent stationary effects - have undergone a bit of a makeover, making them more visible in areas with a lot of concentrated action. In this case, hotspots appeared as large square patches, colour-coded to show the effect. A white square meant player buffs and healing, red squares meant damage, green meant enemy buffs. They are different in each of the instances and this particular colour code is not necessarily representative of all of them, but they are all very clear and unmistakeable.

According to Hannah Foell and Leo Tan, who were jointly controlling the other character in our 2-man group, the Bells of Dale instance has a lot going on. We got up to the first boss, an Olog-hai named Skrizg, who summons groups of adds. Each group of adds he summons adds to the amount of damage he deals, so the goal is to take him down quickly - but not too quickly. The adds can get overwhelming very fast. The final boss, an Easterling sorcerer, summons in spirit animal companions including rats, which gnaw at the bell ropes. For a regular run, no more than 6 rats can be allowed to chew through the bell ropes; for challenge mode, none of them can.
Flight to the Lonely Mountain

[ obraz zewnętrzny ]

"The Ring has passed beyond my vision into the pass of Cirith Ungol. Dale has fallen in the North, and the survivors of the siege are retreating to the Lonely mountain, with the Easterling forces not gar behind them...."

The first 12-player raid occurs at the start of the siege of Erebor, with King Brand attempting to clear a path through the forests for his people to escape to the Lonely Mountain. The raid group will encounter him struggling to hold a clearing, but will not arrive in time to save him. The goal here is to hold the clearing for ten minutes, battling wave after wave of Easterling attackers.

The waves of Easterlings are randomized, and a fresh wave comes every minute - or as soon as the previous wave is defeated. The faster the raid kills the waves, the more enemies come with each successive wave. The challenge is to find a balance between fast killing and manageability - if the group kills too fast, it gets hammered with more enemies, but if it pulls its punches too much, it will be overwhelmed. Finding the balance can be very tricky - I tried running this at level 20 with a level 85 Guardian, and found that at around the 25% mark, I would get swarmed by what looked like around 30-plus mobs at once. None of them was doing much damage and I was blocking and parrying like mad, but it was still a death by a thousand cuts. Challenge mode in this raid requires killing 100 enemies in 10 minutes. There's even a progress bar that stays on-screen to show you how much time remains and how many enemies have been killed.
Fires of Smaug

[ obraz zewnętrzny ]

"The dwarves of Erebor wish to send forth ravens with news of the Battle of Dale and to request aid, but the Easterlings have constructed a device of great evil to smoke the dwarves out of the Lonely Mountain...."

The next raid is set halfway through the siege of Erebor, on the slopes of the Lonely Mountain. The Easterlings are trying to kill the ravens that the Dwarves use to send messages, and have built a chemical furnace in the shape of a great dragon in an attempt to smoke the Dwarves out of their tunnels. The furnace has a number of long pipes leading to valves pumping noxious smoke into the underground tunnels, and a huge Fire Grim in the middle providing the fumes. The goal is to douse the fire and prevent the smoke from reaching harmful levels inside the mountain.

This raid has a lot of moving pieces. Each of the valves has a group of tough Easterlings guarding it, and these valves need to be closed off. They all start out wide open, with a reading of 5, and when one valve that value is knocked down by 1. In order to beat challenge mode, only a minimal amount of smoke can enter the tunnels. This involves dividing the raid's forces between shutting down the valves and attacking the grim in the central furnace, defending that position from groups of attackers and thwarting the Easterlings who come in to dump more noxious chemicals on the raging fire.
Battle for Erebor

[ obraz zewnętrzny ]

"The Ring has been destroyed and Sauron is vanquished from Middle-earth! The Easterlings in the North are dismayed by the news, and the time has come to break the siege of Erebor. However, Sauron's champions await you at the gateway to the Lonely Mountain...."

The final raid is kind of a spoiler. It is set at the end of the siege, after the One Ring is destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom and the message has been sent out to all armies. The Easterlings are teetering on the edge of defeat, and have been camped out at the foot of the Lonely Mountain for a month. The Dwarves mean to send them home with a resounding, absolutely unambiguous declaration of victory by embarassing the Easterling champions in one final, brutal arena match. They're even confident enough in their own champions that they are willing to accept up to six handicaps - basically, the Dwarf equivalent of "I could beat him with one arm tied behind my back! And hopping on one leg! And blindfolded, carrying a crying baby, weak from eating too many iffy tacos and composing an epic power ballad in a new language!"

[ obraz zewnętrzny ]

There are six terms that can be set for this battle royale. Tier 1 requires selecting two terms, Tier 2 requires four, and Challenge Mode requires all six. Each term does something different; the Blood Brother term, for example, causes the twins to deal more damage when their morale begins to vary. If they are not burned down evenly, their damage can get out of control fast and quickly overwhelm the group, and this is challenging because they have different damage-resist buffs. The Inferno term causes the entire arena floor to burn during the last stages of the fight, dealing 5% morale damage every tick - this term will almost certainly be largely reserved for Challenge Modes. Catapults is a fun one, creating random hot spots where falling boulders crash down.

A few players have expressed some confusion about the timeline and setting of these instances, and have questioned why they are tied to Rohan. According to Senior Producer Aaron Campbell, the new instances answer the question of why the Easterlings never invaded Rohan from the north - the invasion force got held up by the men of Dale, and foolishly attempted to root the dwarves out of the Lonely Mountain with a failed siege. The Battle of Dale and the siege of the Lonely Mountain are not a direct part of the main narrative of the Lord of the Rings story, but are recounted in the appendices of the Return of the King, and mentioned by Gimli and Gandalf at various times. And while the Battle for Erebor raid skips ahead to the end of the book, after the good guys have won, its inclusion in the instance cluster isn't a total derailment. It's a side trip, one that follows its own progression and takes its own time. And it's not the only instance that takes place post-war.
